In the words of Dr Seshadri Raju, Sumner’s Hemodynamic Guide to Venous Diagnosis and Intervention falls into the ‘Must Have’ category for all vascular surgeons, especially those with an academic interest. The original Hemodynamics for Surgeons, edited by Eugene Strandness, Jr and David S. Sumner and released in 1975 focused on the then new emerging specialty of vascular surgery, with a unique twist of content directed more toward hemodynamics than clinical. This new text is meant to preserve the spirit of the original edition, while at the same time introducing some modern concepts through the perspective of editors Jose I. Almeida, Ghassan Kassab, and Fedor Lurie.
